Sooo shortly after making a return to art my laptop died ...kind of typical but hey what can you do, I had a bit of money saved up but a new laptop that I would want would've been expensive so I decided I may as well go for it & get a Wacom Cintiq Companion Basically it's a portable Cintiq (no cables yay) & PC all in one which is AWESOME !
I think I first ordered one around 3 months ago but I had to send it back since it had a missing pixel (which they don't see as a fault but it would've annoyed me forever since I would just keep thinking that I forgot to colour something in properly). Then I received the second unit (kindly bought by my partner since I was still disheartened from the last one) & guess what more missing pixels ! ARGH >:-[
At this point my partner & I were kind of ok about the whole thing & just sent it back, waited for the refund, reordered...got a new unit & WOW not only did it have a missing pixel there was SO much dust trapped under the screen that just looked like giant scratches when the screen was on. Not only that but it also managed to boot & then magically turn everything on the screen upside down ! So yeah we got in touch with them again & sent off videos & pictures of the faults & told them this was our third unit. They said they weren't sure why we're experiencing so much bad luck since each unit is 'checked thoroughly' before they leave the estore, YEAH RIGHT ! At least this time we didn't have to wait for the refund as they offered to exchange it. Unit 4 arrived & it was more missing pixels & dust all over again.
I've lost out on work for 3 months now just because they apparently can't manage to just un-box one of these things & quickly check it for us before sending it out. This isn't a cheap thing, it's almost £2,000 !!! You'd think for that amount of money it'd WORK & you'd think they'd understand that not receiving a working one can completely halt a freelance artist. It just seems like they don't care at all, which is odd considering they're whole business revolves mainly around artists. I think that's the worst part of it all, the complete lack of them understanding that we use their products to pay our bills, we invest in them so we can make a living for ourselves yet they can't even show an ounce of humanity & check a unit before sending it out. I didn't mind the first 2 returns but 4/4 being faulty is not really acceptable from a product that is priced so highly & I wish they would see that too.
We're still waiting for our return label for the one that is currently boxed up & ready to go back but I've decided if the next one is still faulty I won't bother anymore. I'll have to find another solution
To sum up I don't really have a way to post any art right :'-( Even if I just bought a new laptop it would have to be powerful enough to run my Photoshop & Cintiq, which my old one barely managed, so it'd be a waste of money in the long run. It's a shame really as this issue should've been resolved by now & I should be happily drawing away.
Apologies for yet another sudden disappearance, I will post updates here as soon as I know what's happening.
